STRAUNGE SILK SCARVES

‘A STRAUNGE AND TERRIBLE WUNDER WROUGHT’

‘A STRAUNGE AND TERRIBLE WUNDER WROUGHT’ announced the title page of Abraham Fleming's account of the appearance of the ghostly black dog ‘Black Shuck’ at the church of Bungay, Suffolk in 1577.

This is but one of many straunge happenings that have steeped Suffolk’s reputation in mystery and whimsy, some based in history and truth and others not so much but both have fascinated me equally.

For this collection, I chose three of what I consider to be the best-known folk tales of Suffolk- though I was horrified to discover over the last year (as someone that grew up with my life goal being to see a ghost) not everyone is aware of: Black Shuck, The Wildman of Orford and The Green Children of Woolpit. This series of scarves aims to bring these stories from the historical and whimsical into the modern, accommodating a more grown eye but still holding onto a sense of childlike wonder.

Each scarf is a piece of wearable art and is a limited edition of 35 of each design.
